Los Angeles, CA - In response to demand from parents and community members fighting battles with local school boards, Our Schools USA goes live with its website to provide downloadable resources, trainings, and strategy support.
Available at ourschoolsusa.org, the website provides the opportunity to search and download resources covering topics like school board transparency, issue organizing for school board meetings, and hot topics in public education. The site provides parent-generated content and opportunities for parents and community members from across the United States to connect and collaborate.
Our Schools USA Co-Founder and parent Kristi Hirst shared, “We love our public schools because they provide all kids the opportunity to access a quality education. Public schools put kids first and are the bedrock of our democracy. We need to ensure that we are empowering parents and community members to stand up and get involved.”
The site further introduces the first three trainings to be provided by Our Schools USA: School Board Issue Organizing 101, So, You Want to Run for School Board (Maybe)?, and How to Get Information From Your School District. These trainings are the first in free monthly trainings that will be provided by Our Schools USA. Trainings will be accessible via Zoom.
“We are gearing up for an official launch in March 2023, but kept getting messages and emails from parents frustrated by actions being taken by newly elected school board members. As a former school board member, I want to make what school boards do and how they operate as easy to understand as possible,” shared Christina Gagnier, co-founder of Our Schools USA.
