“Parents are really worried about their schools,” said Kristi Hirst, a Chino parent who cofounded the nonprofit Our Schools USA earlier this year to confront right-wing rhetoric and policy in school districts. “They see these far-right, extremist policies coming up at school board meetings — things that are taking away from what public education should be about.”
